Monday night update

The last two days have been great. Yesterday afternoon we were able to go out to TCI and use their beach along the river. The water was perfect and we got to spend some time getting to know our Ukrainian hosts and translators a little better. It was an hour long bus ride back and pretty hot. We needed another swim in the river by the time we got back!

This morning we all got together at the church to get everyone’s impressions on the first couple of days and go over our schedule for the week. We spent the greater part of the morning separating the gifts you all have provided by where they’ll end up- in the villages, at the rehab center, at camp, etc. In the afternoon Jen, Michael Pecot and I went to a hospice here in the city. It’s so inspiring to see how God has gifted Jennifer to connect with older people, even with the language barrier. While Jen was giving hand massages Michael was trying to figure out how God wanted to use him in the situation. He quietly started humming and within a few minutes was singing some very soul refreshing songs. It was a very moving thing to be a part of and was very well received by the patients and staff.

The men have been invited to a prayer time at 6am tomorrow and then our whole group leaves for the village of L’vovo for a couple of days. Janice will lead a women’s seminar and we’ll also offer a couple evenings of English lessons while we’re there. A few of us guys will spend time at the rehab center and present the Celebrate Recovery material. Jennifer will also have a chance to visit a hospice in another nearby village. It’s going to be a full couple of days, so please pray for us.

We’re staying mostly healthy, although Janice wasn’t feeling 100% yesterday and the Stevens girls felt a little queasy this morning. Nothing serious, but we’d appreciate prayers for our strength as well.

I was so blessed to have the opportunity to visit this center with Joe and Jennifer. I really did not know what to expect and I can say that I was scared. But watching Jennifer use her gifts to shine light into these peoples eyes through touch, her soothing voice and caring words. She truly has a gift and a heart for these easily forgotten people. But they are not forgotten. God sends angels like Jennifer to minister to them. A testament to this was seeing people remember Jennifer from last year. Thank you that our family has been able to serve next to the Browns.
